How do you organize your book notes if you use an e-reader?

by @gpestana 8yr  | 14 comments

Hey there! As a nomad, how do you organize your book notes? I used to write notes on the physical pages, but now since Iโ€™m always traveling Iโ€™m trying to avoid physical books and it became difficult to keep track of my book notes. Also, I feel that it is so much more effective to retain the information on the book when I take notes of what Iโ€™m readingโ€ฆ

Any ideas for tools/methods to organize your book notes on the road?

I use a service called Clippings.io that can automate clipping your Kindle Highlights page into Evernote at the push of a button. Itโ€™s $1.99/month, but useful if you read a lot and notes are important for you to reference.

I use Marvin ebook reader because it will let me export my notes, but I have to run my kindle books through Calibre DRM strip first.

Hereโ€™s a tangential questionโ€ฆ For both Kindle & iBooks, every now and again, an author will โ€œupdateโ€ their book, and I see the update waiting in my app to be installed. If I do that, will it wipe out the notes I made on the previous version of the book? Or are they retained? Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!

All your kindle notes are available at https://kindle.amazon.com/your_highlights There also a not that complicated process of getting them into Evernote: https://blog.evernote.com/blog/2015/03/25/how-to-save-kindle-highlights-and-notes-into-evernote/

Although I donโ€™t seem to be able to open it. I wonder if thatโ€™s because my Kindle and my books are associated with Amazon.co.uk?

Perhaps. It still feels quite cumbersome and clumsy to do this all the time.

I just tried it and the Your Highlights feature seems to work for accounts connected with Amazon.com.au so there should be a way to get it to work with other overseas accounts (DE, UK). It does take a while to load each book, it uses infinite scrolling (scroll to the bottom of the page to start loading the next book of notes). Itโ€™s also showing my annotated notes as well as my highlights.

That is true. I used Evernote before (long time ago) but at the time didnโ€™t find it as slick as I was expecting. Onenote I donโ€™t know, but will take a look!

I use my Kindleโ€™s notes function, although I have no idea how I would extract my notes from the device.

Exactly, I wonder how to have those notes/highlights sync into one place. Plus, having a way to edit and add annotations after reading the book would be nice feature.

What features would you like to see on Nomad List?

by @levelsio 3yr 3 years ago  | 3 comments

Hi everyone,

I would love to hear what you'd like me to build next on Nomad List, or any other product/feature feedback ideas you have.

It's been 6+ years now but I'm in this for the long term and with the boost remote work got last year it's even more exciting to work on Nomad List than ever.

Current roadmap is here: twitter.com/levelsio/status/1363204985488572417?s=20 and pbs.twimg.com/media/EusS9PKXEAUR8xp?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

The next products/features I have planned:

- ๐Ÿ›‚ Rebase: visa, residency and immigration services for remote workers

- ๐ŸŽ“Courses: learn the steps how to go remote and travel/relocate

- ๐Ÿ› Gov liaison: diplomacy services to the governments to help us lobby for nomads and for them to attract remote workers

Thanks a lot!

List of Visa/Residency Information in Table/Spreadsheet format?

by @innovatelife 3yr 3 years ago  | 2 comments

As part of signing up for this website I was hoping I would come across a list of Visa and/or Residency requirements by country ideally in a table format to assist with decision making. Does anybody recommend any other websites that might present the information in this format (or Google Spreadsheet)?

Most Walkable Neighborhood / City In The World ?

by @dannybooboo 3yr 3 years ago  | 1 comment

I love living in walkable areas of town. I can always find them. But now I'm wondering where in the world are the most walkable places? I'm imagining walk streets (no cars), zoning allowing both business and residential, parks or beaches ,etc.

Any nomads in Arizona, US?

in Netherlands by @info132 3yr 3 years ago  | 4 comments

Hi guys,

After the Netherlands, the Bay Area, Colorado and being on the van life for 8 months, I am now in Sedona, AZ with a few other digital nomads. We are sharing a home here and are wondering if there are more like minded people in the area.

We do a bunch of hikes and campouts in the northern of Arizona. If you would like to connect with us, please do so :)

Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of?

in Germany by @clara 3yr 3 years ago  | 0 comments

Hi everybody. I live and work in Germany and want to go to Canary Islands for 6 months to work from there. I'm going to keep my current job, just change the "home" in the home office part of things. Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of? I was reading about becoming a residence after 183 days, thus having to pay taxes there plus my employer having to register there. Does anybody know how it works exactly? Thanks a lot!

Is anyone travelling right now?

by @viktor 3yr 3 years ago  | 3 comments

Winter is coming and Iโ€™m feeling the ache of travelling after being stuck in the same place since the Pandemic started. Wondering if anyone is travelling right now? If so, where are you currently located and how is the situation where you are?

How do you organize cables in your backpack?

by @refuseillusion 8yr 8 years ago  | 11 comments

Iโ€™m currently thinking of getting a packing cube and velcro binder after I used a GRID-IT organizer which couldnโ€™t fit all my stuff in the end.
I know some use ziplock bags, but how durable is that? Wonโ€™t it just be one big mess of cable salad?

Whatโ€™s your approach?

How to organize a nomad meetup in the city you're in

by @nomadforum 9yr 9 years ago  | 0 comments

Weโ€™ve organized almost 50 meetups of digital nomads now from San Francisco to Berlin to Chiang Mai to Sao Paulo in the last year.

Theyโ€™re very informal get-togethers in a local bar or coworking space with 20 to 50 people (and sometimes 200+, as in Chiang Mai, haha!).

##How do they look?
Wellโ€ฆ

(photos of our previous Berlin meetup by @xiufensilver)

##Why?
Itโ€™s a fun way to meet other travelers in a place youโ€™re at, or if youโ€™re not traveling yet to meet people who have been doing it for awhile.

Entrance is free, and theyโ€™re organized by members from here.

##Whenโ€™s the next meetup?
Almost every week, we have a meetup now somewhere in the world: hereโ€™s a full list of upcoming meetups

##Can I organize a meetup?
Yes! If youโ€™d like to organize a meetup, itโ€™s super easy! Fill out this form and @xiufensilver will contact you to help you arrange it. Usually the meetups are in the evening around 7pm in a local bar or coworking space. But weโ€™ve had brunch meetups too

Letโ€™s get more nomads together! :sunny:
