Saphaipae Hostel is great. I always stay there when Iโm in BKK. Itโs right next to Surasak BTS, 5 minutes of walking to the river, and the hostel is extremely clean. The beds are very comfortable, probably the biggest mattresses youโll ever find at a hostel, the staff is very friendly, and you get a pretty good free breakfast in the morning. Itโs not the typical cereal and bread that you get almost everywhere else. They actually cook breakfast food.
There are many nice places to stay in Bangkok e.g. the tourist areas like Khaosan, Sukhumvit, Siam Center.
However if you like to stay near the airport link, safe, quite and easy to go to many places, I suggest the places near Phaya Thai station as it is just 5 mins from City center and it is the huge station connecting between airport link (30mins from the main airport) and BTS (the main Sukhumvit line).
Airbnb is a good website to find the places in this area.

If you want a very cheap hotel, I stay about 10 days in lanphu house Bangkok koh san road : http://www.lamphuhouse.com/bangkok/index.html
The cheapest rooms (shared batthroom) are at 280 bahts (about 7โฌ). They have also better room at 900 bahts I think but not tested. I hate work in my room of the hotel, so this place was good for me.

Iโm a Thong Lo (Skvmt Soi 55) kind of guy.
One of the few neighborhoods in Bangkok I can tolerate for any length of time without going too crazy.
Itโs kind of a bougie neighborhood, but itโs not that pretentious. It has bougie amenities.
Thereโs a few great coffee shops around there like Roast.
Good restaurants all around like Suppanniga Eating Room.
Places to hang out like SceneSpace.
The other side of Skvmt (Soi 38) turns into a street food street at night.
Close proximity to co-working spaces.
Not too far from the train.
Great happy hour at a cool bar down the street called Bad Motel.
The place I stay there is called Grass Suites.
Itโs an Ikea cheapy chic hotel, where basically, you get your own one-bedroom apartment. There is a kitchen in each room. Washing machine and some have bedrooms that are separate from the kitchen and small โliving roomโ area.
Also, something that is nice is there is a great coffee shop called Boy Coffee right outside the front door of the hotel.
The place is a great value.
You have to book on Agoda.
I am usually able to book for around $42usd/ night.
For some reason, I donโt see them on Agoda right now. I just stayed with them for a month back in October, so who knows.
If that hotel is not available I always stay at Suite 41 (Skvmt 41) - and thatโs also a great value, and a cool little Japanese pocket around there, but not as convenient as Thong Lo. I have gotten a room there for $32/ night. You can negotiate them down if you are staying longer.

I was at the Farmerโs Market on Sunday and decided to stroll through Thong Lo along Sukhumvit Rd. I was trying to see what all the excitement was about, but I didnโt find anything. Do I need to walk down the Soiโs to find these places? I wasnโt super impressed and I certainly didnโt think it was bougie.
Youโd have to walk up Soi55 about 10 - 15 minutes to get into the thick of it. Up that way is Scene Space, Wine Republic, the bar Iron Fairies, the bar Bad Motel, etcโฆ
If you only stay for a couple of days, try accommodations in Banghlampu or Sam Sen area near the river in Old Bangkok (also called Phra Nakhon or Rattanakosin on booking sites like Agoda). Thereโs something for every budget. Quiet Sam Sen area is my favorite to stay.
From Banghlampu/Sam Sen, you can reach most of the major attractions by taking the River Express Boat from Phra Athit Pier and metered taxis are also dirt cheap. You can even walk to some of the sights, if you can manage the heat.
Some sights to look into with their respective express boat stops:
Hereโs a map I made for a friend. Itโs called walking tour, but metered taxis are dirt cheap, if you donโt wanna walk.
Hereโs another map, if you wanna visit sights by โHop on Hop offโ Bus Nr. 53 (Itโs just a regular bus going in a circle around Old Bangkok, but you can use it as a hop on hop off bus, every ride is like 10 Cents)
Hereโs a map with the locations of some of the most interesting sub culture districts such as Little India, Soi Arab, Chinatown, Sam Sen, Khao San Road and red light district Soi Cowboy
There are a gazillion of museums spread around Old Bangkok (Rattanakosin) and you can get a 200 Baht Museum pass to visit as many of them as you like. My favorite is Museum Siam near Wat Pho.
Banghlampu is also the area, where infamous Khao San road is located, but you never have to go there. Itโs just a very small street, that makes for an interesting stroll, especially after dark.
Sukhumvit is a really bad idea to base yourself for travelers, unless you are really, really into shopping or red light districts. None of the major attractions are connected by Skytrain or Metro (yet) and traffic in New Bangkok is much worse than in Old Bangkok.
If you absolutely want to base yourself away from Old Bangkok, better try Silom near a river express boat stop rather than Sukhumvit.
Iโm not saying you shouldnโt visit Sukhumvit. The whole Bangkok shopping mall experience is crazy, especially Terminal 21. Also Soi Arab (Soi Sukhumvit 3) is one of my favorite places to eat exotic food in town (esp. Ethiopian). Also the many seedy parts of Sukhumvit like Nana or Soi Cowboy make for an interesting stroll.
But half a day in Sukhumvit is enough as a traveler. You can take the Khlong canal boat from Banghlampu/Democracy Monument to Sukhumvit, which is a great experience in itself.

Sukhumvit thereโs an awesome hostel called Analog which is cool. Otherwise Hotel Cha Cha near Khao San
It depends on your budget.
I lived there for a year and stayed near On Nut bts. It was 20,000 baht/month for a 2 bedroom 60sqm brand new condo. It was convenient as I was 500m from the BTS and about 20 minutes of travel from Asoke.
I recommend it if you can get by with a bit of thai.

I'm an experienced Digital Nomad and after being in Lockdown in Bangkok and Germany for one year I would like to team up with someone to visit a new place. Or just doing some exchange about what destinations would be interesting currently.
I take the virus seriously and still I think we can still be able to take our life in our own hands. So I'm aiming for cities/countries which are not in full lockdown, are not too complicated about immigration (I'm looking at you Thailand, your state quarantine costs like 1k USD and is basically a prison) and is also rather safe regarding the virus. I tend to stick for rather big cities and like culture. I'm not a beach or nature person. I'm pretty flexible about the money topic.
Iโm curious to know how many people learned some Thai before going there. Learning languages is a hobby of mine but Iโm very put off by how complex the writing system is, and if I decide not to learn it Iโll probably cross Chiang Mai off my bucket list. I prefer to be at least conversational in a language before I do an extended stay in a country. Iโm curious how people who learned no Thai did getting by. And Iโm curious, from people who did learn some, if itโs any easier than it seems? Thanks!

Normally, when I go abroad for a longer period of time, I try to take as much medication with me from my home country as I can for that period. Which so far has worked well for me.
But if Iโm going to be a full-time nomad that wonโt work anymore. Mainly because Iโll then unregister from my country. Which has some downsides like not being able to have my current health insurance anymore. Other health insurance companies wonโt cover existing conditions, so Iโll have to buy my medication โover the counterโ.
But since I need some medication which in The Netherlands (and I assume other countries) is only available on a doctors prescription. I was curious how people here arrange that (if there are any in the same boat as me).
The main medication I think would be hardest for me (and most expensive) to get is Epoetin-Alpha (Aranesp) injections.
Since thereโs not really a โworld wide standarizedโ doctor prescription form, how do you get the medication abroad? Do you have a checkup there again at a local clinic before you can get the medication? (That would probably add to the cost too).
Iโm currently in Penang, Malaysia and I was thinking to head to Thailand next. What are the best islands in Thailand to get some work done? I was considering either Ko Lanta or Ko Phangan because those both islands have coworking spaces. I might need to take some client calls, also video. Is the wifi good enough? Are there any other differences between the islands?
You can look up the Iglu company in Thailand. It is a legal way of working in Thailand with a work permit for digital nomads. Are there other companies in Thailand offering work permits for digital nomads? They charge you 30% of your salary, which is a lot. Are there other companies charging less than Iglu or have a different pricing scheme?

Iโve been nomading around SE Asia, HK and China for the last 4 to 5 months. Iโve been moving a lot and now I need to settle down for 3 months to finish some work. So the idea is to be in a stimulating city where I can find nomads, start-ups, self growth, self improvement, spirituality environments.
I already been for one month in Chiang mai, and liked it a lot in this respect, but wanted to try somewhere new, so was thinking to go to Ho Chi Minh or Bali. As I will be working mainly most of the time, the idea is not to spend much this three months, so my idea is to spend around 1200usd per month.
Would appreciate any opinions on this.

As an American Citizen, would it be safe to fly into Thailand without a visa? You can get a 30 day upon entry right?
The reason I ask is, Iโm in the process of getting my passport. Iโd like to leave basically as soon as my passport arrives in the mail. Iโm unable to apply for a Thai Visa until I have my passport, so that would require an even longer wait.
Would I be able to fly into Thailand with no visa, then get a 30 day entry, then apply for an education visa while inside the country? Once I go, Iโd like to not have to return to the US. I donโt mind if I have to take a bus/flight to a neighboring country for however long if I must leave while I wait for an education visa.
Hey - Iโm heading to Bangkok for a month from the 14th November to see how it feels living and working there for a month in terms of productivity/lifestyle/etc. Iโm a FX/Futures trader so just generally require a decent computer and internet connection.

Thailand - Krabi vs. Koh Lanta in March

So Iโm looking to leave my current base in Chiang Mai, Thailand to head back down south in March to escape burning season.
Iโm looking at staying for a month in either Krabi or Koh Lanta. I already spent a month on Koh Samui which was ok but Iโm looking to explore the other side now and it seems this will be a good time of year seasonally to be on those islands.
Here are my main considerations and would love any thoughts:
I donโt necessarily care about being near a co-working space as much of my work on video calls requires me to work from home anyway for privacy.
Anyone stayed on Krabi or Koh Lanta & have any suggestions?

I would like to move in Thailand for 6-9 months starting from August.
Iโll definetely stay in Chiang Mai as base for most of the time but Iโd like to do the first month (August) in Bangkok or somewhere else.
What place would you recommend to visit first?
Would Bangkok be a good place to be during August?
I was also checking at the east coast isles but I got a little frightened out by the moonsoon idea but still, it would be cool to go to beaches and have some sun during that month .
Would the moonsoons or the rain really be a problem?
Iโll move to Chiang Mai from september anyway but I would just like to start somewhere else since I have to wait for my girlfriend to come during september.

Weโre setting off on our first venture for new digital nomad life in 20 days!
Right now, Iโm utterly baffled and confused by trying to figure out how weโre going to be able to get more cash or transfer money from our bank accounts in Canada. Either at all or without getting charged insane fees.

p.s. right now we have a one-way ticket and are wanting to keep our options open to stay longer if we love it (which weโre anticipating)
My girlfriend and I started our DN life this March and went straight to Chiang Mai because of itโs ease of living. We love it. CM is great โ we got a scooter for 2700 THB, a nice apartment for 8000 THB all in, we get our laundry done for 50 THB, eat out at nice places every day for less than 100 THB etc. Arriving here needed nearly no preparation โ it just worked out all by itself.
We are still on tight budget and donโt want to give up much of CMโs quality of life but we want to see other places and we are now thinking about what could be our next destination. We are not really willing and able to spend more than what we spend now. Bali seems to be a good place according to what you all wrote.
How does it compare to Chiang Mai or Thailand in general?
CM can get very hot and we often acknowledge that we should have chosen an apartment with a pool here. Can I rent something in Bali for a few months with a pool for less than 250 USD?
Are there any Nomad-houses or similar projects at the moment that make it easy to connect to other people?
We donโt really hang out in co-working spaces, more in cafรฉs. We source products in China and sell them to customers in Europe through e-commerce.
